June 16, 2020: Victory in the Supreme Court for LGBTQ+ Rights! ERA is Next!
June 16, 2020 Robert Wood

This is a great moment for civil rights in the United States. The Supreme Court’s ruling in the case of Bostock v. Clayton County affirms what Equal Means Equal has long argued: the term “sex” includes ALL Americans, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identification.

Equal Means Equal was proud to file a brief in support of the LGBTQ+ community in this important case.

We applaud the Court’s decision and join our LGBTQ+ friends across the country in cheering the Court’s ruling as an important leap forward in the fight against sex discrimination.

EME is continuing the legal battle for equality with its landmark case in Federal Court in Massachusetts asking for the Equal Rights Amendment to be validated.

Now that the LGBTQ+ community has all the same legal protections as women in the workplace, under the meaning of “sex” in Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, we will lead the way in establishing broader and stronger legal protections against sex discrimination not only in the workplace, but in all aspects of life by making the ERA the 28th Amendment to the United States Constitution.

The winds of justice are picking up speed as they sweep across our great nation. There is growing determination among the American public at large to press for equal justice for black people, gay people, trans people — and female people.

When the court takes up the matter of validating the Equal Rights Amendment, we trust that this trend towards progress for those of us that have experienced deep-seated systemic discrimination will continue, and that women will see our inalienable rights upheld.

Let us, at this momentous time in the collective history of our movements, push forward to an ever more-perfect union by upholding ERA and including women, finally, as equal citizens under our Constitution.

With love, thanks and gratitude,

Kamala, Natalie, Wendy and the EME Team
