August 8, 2020: We Will Not Be Diss’d: EME’s Lawsuit Moves Forward
August 8, 2020 Robert Wood

Hope you are staying well and strong in the face of the continuous disruption caused by the coronavirus pandemic. As always, thank you for doing everything you can to keep yourself and others safe and healthy.

This is just a quick update about our lawsuit to protect ratification of the Equal Rights Amendment (EME et al vs. DAVID S. FERRIERO). We learned this week that the judge in our case in Massachusetts U.S. District Court granted the Department of Justice’s motion to dismiss the lawsuit. (sad trumpet sound)

What does this actually mean for the case and ERA? We have reviewed this scenario many times and, frankly, we expected this might happen. We consulted with numerous scholars and legal experts and all agree we have a strong case. Appealing this decision is the next step for EME; our lawyer Wendy Murphy is already preparing our appeal.

So, no time to get down or feel despondent!  At least, not on the ERA front. Things are getting really exciting, Equality Warriors! Keep your eyes and ears open as we head towards the finish line.  Things can and will happen quickly now, and we must be ready.

We have multiple upcoming public awareness-raising events in the works to continue to build on the growing momentum for ERA.  We will let you know about them shortly but wanted to get this out to you ASAP.

No one ever said it was going to be easy, friends – just WORTH IT.

Onward and upward! Together in the persisterhood ☺ we will prevail!.

With love and thanks,

Kamala and Natalie
