On August 9, 2026, 49 organizations joined together in an Amicus Curiae Brief filed with the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit in support of EQUAL MEANS EQUAL’s historic constitutional equality appeal. Led by the National Women’s Political Caucus (NWPC), National Women Veterans United (NWVU), International Association of Military Women of Color (IAMWOC), and Service Women’s Action Network (SWAN), the coalition brings the powerful perspective of women veterans and organizations committed to women’s full constitutional equality before the Court.
The brief supports the Appellants’ arguments that the Equal Rights Amendment is valid and enforceable, that intermediate scrutiny of sex-based classifications is inconsistent with equal protection, and that women are entitled to full constitutional equality. Amici write separately to emphasize the constitutional and moral imperative of recognizing that equality in light of women’s extraordinary record of military service and commitment to the nation.
