Join Us for the Second Week of the ERA Sentinel Project in Washington D.C.

By Kamala, Natalie, Wendy, Thila, Rebecca and the EME team

The ERA Sentinel project keeps growing and gaining momentum with recent commitments from ERA Minnesota and ERA North Carolina Alliance to stand Sentinel with Equal Means Equal outside the Department of Justice until AG Garland removes the Barr memo, freeing the U.S. Archivist to publish the ERA.

Timing could not be better for us given the recent and absolutely appalling news about what is going on inside the DOJ. It is truly fortuitous that we find ourselves in the midst of this fray and it is absolutely incumbent upon us to connect the dots for the media and the DOJ staff that ERA is another one of their internal problems that NEEDS TO BE FIXED IMMEDIATELY.

Rachel Donlan, EME rep on the ground in DC reports from yesterday:

“Morale was high again today onsite. Cars and buses were honking at our group of Sentinels on both shifts! I have to admit, it’s a lot of fun.”

She also said:

“Homeland Security approached us yesterday, wanting to make sure we are “not bringing in busloads of protestors.”

We responded, “Not expecting it today, Sir! But can’t promise anything.”  They also wanted to know when it will be over and I said, “When the ERA is published and equal means equal!”

Elizabeth Devine also joined the Sentinels, having come in from Georgia!  Thank you, Elizabeth!  She joins LaShell, Beverly, Vinisa, Desiree and Carey taking shifts every day.

A heartfelt shout out to Betty Folliard, Judy Lotas, Eileen Davis and all the other powerhouse ERA activists who have been calling on their networks to come to DC and stand Sentinel with us.  Here is a portion of a recent press release sent out by ERA Minnesota:

“ERAMN delegates will join Equal Means Equal and other activists from across the country to elevate the issue that U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland has yet to rescind the Trump Administration’s Barr Memo which effectively stopped the U.S. Archivist from doing his ministerial duty to publish the ERA. This action continues the work of the Silent Sentinels who, 100 years ago, fought for the right to vote then pivoted to demand the U.S. finally legalize equality.” said Betty Folliard, ERA Minnesota Founder.

We invite all women’s rights organizations and corporations who publicly support the Equal Rights Amendment to take a stand with us.  They are welcome to bring their signs, fly their colors and join the party!  We invite anyone who cares about American women and girls to help us take this ERA Sentinel project from a small protest to a massive showing for equal rights for all.

We hope to continue to grow the ranks of the ERA Sentinels with volunteers who can donate their time or by your generous sponsorship of a woman in D.C. from CFLS.org to take shifts for you.

Equal Means Equal hopes this peaceful protest action will help build comradery and sisterhood across diverse and disparate groups of women in the service of our common goal: equality for all.

Love and thanks
