Why the ERA is Important One-Sheet

The Equal Rights Amendment establishes equality under the law in the U.S. Constitution, regardless of one’s sex. The Amendment reads as follows: “Equality of rights under the law shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of sex”. The E.R.A. is critical to addressing -- and ending -- the many inequities that affect women, from pay disparities to ending gender-based violence.
